His Smile is Our Mission: An Urgent Appeal for Baby Joachim

As one of Baby Joachim's Sunday school teachers, I've had the privilege of knowing this sweet, smart and jovial child for close to one year now. When I picture him seated around our sunday school table, I instantly see his beautiful, radiant smile, the kind that lights up a room, and makes our Sunday school class a little brighter.

But lately, when I see Joachim in church, the shadows of an unending health battle have begun to cloud that radiant smile. His journey has been tough, and the illness has taken a catastrophic toll on this young boy. The vibrant child I knew is now dealing with unimaginable pain as the tumor, DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), progresses.

He is constantly battling excruciating migraines that leave him exhausted and in pain, the tumor's aggressiveness has led to the loss of his sense of hearing making communication and interaction increasingly difficult, and he is also losing his ability to walk properly, robbing him of the simple joy of running around and playing like other children his age.

Imagine the weight of this struggle on a 7-year-old. This has been emotionally devastating, since he is not able to do what he loves most: interacting with his friends and playmates. The excitement and laughter we associate with childhood are being overshadowed by constant pain.

Baby Joachim has been a tiny warrior fighting this aggressive brain cancer. The sickness has been accelerating, but we thank God that we have a clear path to help him stabilize his condition and ease his suffering: urgent stereotactic therapy.

This crucial treatment offers him the best chance to halt the progression of this aggressive cancer and give him more time, better quality of life, and a chance to have back his beautiful, bright smile.

In relation to this, we are racing against time to raise the necessary funds to get Baby Joachim the stereotactic therapy he so desperately needs.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, is a direct act of love, and is a step toward easing his pain and that of his mom, and, most importantly, giving him a renewed chance to live and to smile again.
